Chicharito has his own commercial! I know it's weird to be excited about a footballer doing a commercial but thinking about where he was just a couple of years ago... :')

(via checkeredshirtdance)
why am I not attending this concert? why?? ugh, Jason Orange, you are so ridiculous, it's unreal. Also, did you know that during a radio interview, two ladies tweeted to say that they still had two TT tickets from '95 because they couldn't attend at the time. They asked the boys (just for fun, I imagine) if they could still use the tickets for the Progress tour instead. and guess who said yes? JASON ORANGE. I hope he makes good on his promise.

The best part about this video? Surprise!?uestlove! He seriously knows everybody. check out Karmin's video of them performing Look At Me Now with The Roots live. It was great.

I've been reading so much TSN fic, lately. SO MUCH. I've even started reading Eduardo/Sean (can you imagine Justin and Andrew being together???) and personally, I blame wip and silviakundera. I think I'm a bit overinvested in this fandom. To the point where I don't think I can watch the movie again because even seeing gifs of Eduardo and Mark fighting just hurts. Don't judge me, okay! I'm just gonna read reconciliation fic forever and ever.

This weekend has been pretty crappy because I got incredibly sick (high fever, sore throat, joint pain, body pain, the works) on Friday and til today, it seems like the fever is refusing to be beaten. It left my body really weak. I get this fever pretty much every year so I guess it's good to know I'm home free for the rest of the year.

Man, I almost forgot about this video. It made me sniffle, I'm not gonna lie.
yetunknown: (fledglings)
School has been taking over my life this past month. SERIOUSLY, I feel like the three months of doing nothing has turned my brain into mush and made me forget how to actually think. It makes me sad because thinking is one of my favourtie pastimes :(

anyway, I feel like I should post in bullet points lately because no way can I write a post about the past month in a cohesive manner.

1. Inception. Inception fandom, how so awesome? seriously, I am finding good fic everyday )

and that's only the fic I've read in the past few days. If I included every fic I've read that I really, really liked, this list would be very, very long. if you're curious for more, just comment. I'd be happy to sift through my bookmarks.

2. late, but this video

Krim Outtakes from Yankee Stadium )
KRIM! KAB! Kris being a gentleman and picking up Jim's notes after he dropped them for the 20842 time! (obvious much, Jim?)

3. people on twitter have reignited my love for football and, strangely, the Beckhams. I forgot how Victoria says the most hilariously inappropriate things sometimes and David is quietly snarky. and babiiiieeees <333

4. I still don't really know how to feel about Eminem asking Rihanna to basically sing a refrain on a song about domestic violence but ugh, this song is so good. and so is the music video. which features Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan )

5. Just found this article on Guardian Football about Rooney clashing with SAF. hahahahaha HE JUST WANTS TO PLAY FOR HIS COUNTRY, OKAY. Seriously, though. It's why I love that little dude so much. He just can't say no to his country (and club, too).

6. Watched Salt last night. I want to see Angelina Jolie in action movies all the time now. She's just so good at it. (No, I haven't seen Mr and Mrs Smith. what? I just don't go out a lot, okay.)

7. I really want this hoodie but I just can't justify spending that amount of money for an item of clothing + shipping ;_______________; /whine

8. ...I just stumbled over this video of Lissie covering Kid Cudi's Pursuit of Happiness :O ...:DDDD )

(and I can't stop listening to the Lissie and Ellie Goulding collaboration on Everywhere I Go from the same festival. yes, STILL. here, have an mp3. I really should go and get this lady's album from somewhere.)

...aaaaaaaand now I have to get back to studying. /o\ oh, and eating. I keep forgetting that getting proper nutrients at appropriate mealtimes is an essential part of life /o\/o\/o\
yetunknown: (this guy!)
I woke up in a spectacularly bad mood to day for unknown reasons (maybe because I missed last night's prayers because I fell asleep? that just came to me. I don't know, though.) but a few things made it better:

1. [ profile] stickmarionette

LXD at TED, where they got a standing ovation. YOU HEAR THAT, OSCARS?? )

3. Lissie and Ellie Goulding singing Everywhere I Go live. purest form of beauty. )

I had this video on repeat before I went to class. I hope someday, I can find something that gets me as passionate as these two seem to be about music.

4. [ profile] stickmarionette (who brought me #5 and #6)

5. remembering this pic

I still giggle EVERY. TIME. ~So wrong, yet so right~

6. this dude )

(who is also in this video. he's the one on stage left. who keeps doing the orgasm!face and skips to centerstage halfway through the song. he's my favourite :DDD)

7. [ profile] stickmarionette :DDDDDD
yetunknown: (perfect poses)

this performance is FANTASTIC. Seriously, if you've never heard of The Like before, I highly recommend watching this performance and this interview.

Stealing clothes off children! Bribing them with lollipops! Having no shame at doing the walk of shame! )

I stand by my statement that they should do video interviews all the time. They're just so freaking likable (unintentional pun, sorry).

and before I forget again:

this made me feel slightly better about Uruguay vs South Korea. South Korea are not "my" team but I was hoping that they would advance and I'm still slightly upset. oh, football.
yetunknown: (huggle attack)
So. This.

On the one hand, I'm glad that the issue is being discussed, and in most cases that I have seen, being discussed in a rational and adult manner, even educating a few people (including myself) in the process.

On the other hand, I cannot believe that people are still writing comments that amount to "It's only fiction!" and "people are overreacting".

1. Yes, I know it is fiction. That does not make people who are hurt by this piece of fiction hurt any less. Fiction mirrors what we as a society think, especially when it addresses the minority. There was a reason I hated Avatar and it was not because of CGI. And yes, I also know that the author was hurt. Which leads to

2. Because you are hurt does not give you the right to cause more hurt by using trigerry language and not thinking and/or not caring about the consequences to people other than yourself. Comparing criticism to rape? I don't know how someone can overreact to that.

(I encourage anyone who has no idea what I'm talking about to go to this post and read all the discussion going on in the comments. and yes, I do mean ALL. Even the negative ones.)

now, I would like to direct you to Allison Iraheta and David Immerman doing a freakishly awesome acoustic version of Holiday. (If someone knows how to embed this, please tell me! and if someone has mp3, PLEASE TELL ME.)

This girl just gets better everyday. I kinda feel like it's a good thing she didn't blow up so big because I like to think that it gives her more time to grow and explore her musical identity without being under the microscope. On the flipside, I would much rather hear her on the radio than Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus.

Also? I ship her and her guitarist now. They seem to have a lot of mutual respect and adoration for each other and that is A+ OK with me.

Another video of Heartbreaker but from NY and farther away. However you can clearly hear the crowd singing along, which is awesome.
yetunknown: (huggle attack)
here, have a video of the Kris Allen Band comparing themselves to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

this band cracks me up )

cover of the night, Don't Look Back In Anger!

with cameos by all of GRO and a bubble maker! the fact that Josh(?) had to bend way down to sing into Kris' mike cracks me up. Kris messes up the words, but not horribly. and apparently they gave Kris a Marilyn Monroe t-shirt and a baby before the last song. man am I gonna miss those guys.

Steve Luna takes the cake, though, by walking onstage in a midriff baring GRO merch shirt, a wig and a skirt. I have to admit, he looks better in that skirt than I probably would. and Kris & Band presents GRO with a painting of horses as a parting gift. (Yeah, no idea either.)

Things that do not involve Curse I've Fallen*:
I've been noticing that my memory is getting really really bad lately. For example, I'm on a site and reading something and then I remember I need to do something (e.g. search a phrase or get a drink). After I've browsed the site a bit more and move to another tab, I've forgotten what I was supposed to do. 60% of the time I remember again but it's the rest 40% that has me worried. *sigh* I guess my memory is like my kneecaps, getting old before their time.

* got those from the comments section of Top Idol. I was so bored I actually spent the whole day going through the comments in the AI threads there. It was very.... educational.
yetunknown: (Default)

is he kidding or... is he kidding? because I can't imagine Cape Town being a theme for anything sports-related.

World Cup:
I only saw England vs Slovenia and USA vs Algeria not even halfway through so if you have anything to add, please do.

England vs Slovenia was terrible. Both sides were... clunky, for lack of a better word. Although England got better after the goal. (Their passes actually reached the right people!) That Slovenian goalie, though. Man.

USA vs Algeria! I liked this match, from what I saw before I fell asleep on the couch. I stand by my opinion that that first disallowed goal shouldn't have been disallowed. But they still won! and Michael Bradley actually smiled! \o?

now, do I get over my anxiety of unknown places and go to the cafe opposite this apartment to get breakfast or actually wait until my planned trip to the mall later today?

eta: just saw the highlights of Mexico vs Uruguay, France vs South Africa and Nigeria vs South Korea. I didn't realize how crazy the South Africa vs France game was. also, the Uruguay and South Korea teams are full of hot people.

eta2: wow, Greek goalie, whoever you are. He did well against Argentina and looked good doing it. actually, you know what? just go to this post and appreciate the pretty. [/shallow]

eta 3: oh Mark Ronson, you are such a hipster. )
yetunknown: (backwards z)

oh man, I think I squeaked when I saw this. $25k in 4 days you benches! so kick awesome!

here's another couple who are so dorky and adorable they make my teeth ache.

I was originally saving my last userpic spot (on LJ) for a Kris icon but, uh, apparently Andrew takes precedence right now?

here's what I've been watching on and off for a while now:

around 1:54, when he drops his head back? I think my mouth went dry.

speaking of hotness, I really want to be Nick White in this one. look how he oh-so-casually slings an arm around Jon's shoulders.

okay, so this post pretty much devolved into a Jon Walker (and the rest of his band) Is Hot post. I don't think many people will complain, though.

I don't think I've posted this before, even though I flailed over it months ago. But if you haven't seen Lisa Hannigan & band perform I Don't Know in a tiny room, I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to watch this video. Seriously.
yetunknown: (riseraction)

my mind's been stuck on music and covers/collaborations lately.

like Kid Cudi & Bryan Greenberg performing together, this cover of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by The Like (mp3), this mashup of Falling Slowly & With or Without You - actually, any cover Kris Allen has done, Adam Levine/Kanye West, etc and how unexpected stuff like that makes a song infinitely more interesting to me.

also, how an artist records their songs influences greatly how much I will enjoy it. Like this song, Heart of Mine, where you can hear all the laughter and conversation going on in the background. it makes it more intimate, somehow, which makes me feel slightly voyeuristic. I repeated that song so many times on the bus earlier today.

most of the time, I love live versions of certain songs way more than studio versions to the point that I forget what the original even sounds like (Is It Over, anyone? Andrew's guitar solo will blow your face off), especially when there's audience participation (two of my very favourite Panic performances. how EPIC was Hove Festival '08, you guys?).

I don't know, I guess I was just listening to a lot of songs while walking around and on the bus/train today. maybe i'll make a playlist for all of you later.

okay, okay. enough rhapsodizing for one day.

an aside: I bought a pair of TOMS shoes! turns out that strategy of having a celebrity promote your organization really does work. who knew, right?

(my friends are gonna laugh so hard when I wear them to class. they're pink plaid. /o\ shut up, they're cute. and easy to wear. and technically, i did a good deed.)

oh, and the World Cup starts tooooodaaaaay!!!

oh, and REMEMBER, for every one creation inspired by this prompt, the mods of we_are_cities will donate a dollar to the Greater New Orleans Foundation to help the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Relief efforts.

Mandela's great-granddaughter killed in crash after World Cup concert
Oh gosh. My thoughts go out to them.
yetunknown: (riseraction)

girl's got sass.

@krinja_signal Kris is singing "I Need To Know" in Grand Rapids right now :D
Me: WHAT???
you wouldn't not believe how high my voice went when I realized what that tweet meant.

yetunknown: (Default)
Jon was the first one of them to mention Gold Motel! Jooooooooooon! you totally have your priorities straight ♥

also, I know I've only talked about one side of post-split Panic(!) [haha, that was fun] lately, but I swear, I've listened to now-Panic! too. It's ridiculous how many times I've listened to New Perspective and Oh Glory! on repeat. I'm not too wild about the lyrics of New Perspective (but it might grow on me yet) but I love how they developed their music. It's really rock-pop, and straddles the line between non-conventional and mainstream perfectly, not to mention being catchy as hell. Catchy is good! and I really like both the music and lyrics from the Oh Glory! snippet.

speaking of music,

a. who else has Paramore's Where The Lines Overlap on repeat? I mean, no one is as lucky as us and there's nothing to it, I've never been happier. awwwwwwwwwww, Paramore. in addition, I've got a feeling if I sing this loud enough, you would sing it back to me: this simple line perfectly encapsulates the fascination I have with musician/fan interaction, especially during live shows. yes, we will sing it back to you.

b. I liked one or two songs on The Like's first album but now, I like everything new that they've put out! I mean, the intro to Fair Game! who says family doesn't kiss? and oh, monsters get created every day. everything about Release Me, especially the backing harmonies. I don't know dude, they're just so sassy that I can't help but love them. perfect feel good music.
yetunknown: (Default)

So, a band named Biffy Clyro covered Ciara's Love Sex Magic, acoustic. It was really good! and they threw in some harmonizing and giggling.
yetunknown: (Default)
I'm going to steal an idea I saw posted at one of the music comms.

comment with your favourite icon and I'll reply with a song that I associate with that icon. (bewarned: 'comes to mind' does not mean a logical thought process.) post 2 favourite icons if you want to, or bring a friend along to get more tunes, I don't mind :D

(I really am bored.)

EDIT: I just realized I haven't posted this vid yet.

ladies and gentlemen, Damian Lewis showing off a fistbump that an 8 year old taught him. complete with exploding noises!

and if you want to experience some gut-busting laughter, watch this one as well.

EDIT2: This is absolutely insane. and so very awesome.
yetunknown: (Default)
why is dw being slooow.

I just found this today. spread the love &hearts

second thing I found out today, taylor momsen (dan's little sister on gossip girl) has a band. she has a pretty awesome voice. and I just found out that she's only turning 16 next month (thanks wikipedia). whaaaaaaaaat.

Yer So Bad - Hillside Session Version

is this video only not working for me? because it cuts off after one second.

and hey, I've seen the expression 'pointy-eared bastard' frequently crop up when someone's annoyed by Spock. is it canon? is anybody on my flist a Trekker? also, is it politically correct? IDK, it sounds derogatory somehow, but what do I know?

edit: I wish my mp3 player could fit all the music I want to listen to right now. and I wish I could upload them for you, I really do. but internet on campus is too crappy to upload anything bigger than 1Mb.

p.s. geneli4, I'm listening to America right now but track 3 was corrupted and went missing. I'm up to track 6 now, though, and I'm loving it. such a beautiful voice and guitars.
yetunknown: (Default)
I've realized that mostly I update when I'm bored and don't update when something's actually happening. oops? I'll try to change that.

click if you want to know what I'm doing this Sunday )

and this next segment has nothing to do with the previous one: Coldplay is actually giving out a free EP! no strings attached!

physical exertion is no joke, people. )
yetunknown: (Default)
re-listening to Almost Here for the first time in a long time. I'm still surprised to realise that I love almost all of the songs in this album. good times.

I think I had something else to post but I forgot. that's happening pretty frequently lately. I think I should take up Sudoku or start playing chess again (which i would need to find a partner for. playing against yourself is fun, but not as challenging) or something, so that my brain doesn't become just facts figures that don't mean anything.

what's up? )

talk to me, flist. music, writing, God, whatever. be anonymous if you want to.

yetunknown: (Default)
this is the third time I've tried to edit this post. what happened to automatically saving drafts, LJ? HUH?

three songs that I like! change xx to tt )

also, I love to watch them doing Knocked Up live. they have this uncanny ability to turn potentially stupid-sounding lyrics into an astounding song. and make the crowd sing along to it.

other stuff:
1) I spent the whole day browsing youtube and myspace and now I really like Taylor Swift. she's ridiculously dorky. and her whole family, band and crew are too. (or at least, they humour her a lot.) and look, Patrick makes a brief appearance! (around 3:58)

2) speaking of videos, what about those Home Movies Kings of Leon did while recording, huh? I have now learned that Caleb is a dick sometimes when he drinks (he thinks it's because the fame is getting to his head so they went back home to record), their mom thinks something might go wrong if 'boys don't do IT enough' (which prompt the boys to declare her the coolest mom ever) and they play Roofball and regress to competitive 15-year-olds when they get back home and/or playing against each other. oh, and this story of the recording of Cold Desert

which was what made me want to listen to the song in the first place.

I don't know if there's a KoL fandom (and I don't think I want to know) but man, if there is, they must be really happy with the amount of canon handed to them.
yetunknown: (Default)
1. Oasis and Panic are playing in the same festival. how epic would it be if they met? I'm sure Noel would blog about it. this has a potential for hilarity, you guys.

2. how amazing is my screensaver? as awesome as the universe.

it's like a slideshow of all these different images, the Sun, the face of the moon, the huge volcano on Mars, the storm on Jupiter, stuff like that. really cool.

3. I have 100+ stuff (read: fic) tagged READ (which is my tag for stuff that I plan on reading). I found some freaking cool stuff, too. if you're interested (there's a Supernatural/Friday Night Lights crossover that I just read! really, really good) head over here.

4. it is really, really humid tonight since it rained earlier*. on the plus side, the angsana trees on my street are blooming and the sight of it falling is beautiful. I imagine it's sort of like what falling cherry blossoms in Japan would look like, if they were bright yellow. I wish I could take a picture to show you.

5. shaaaaane! and panic! and pete!

6. should I or should I not watch Wolverine? I don't read the comics so I'm not particularly attached to the fandom, but - Tim Riggins! I want to hug whoever did the casting.

*= I was going to post this yesterday night, but I accidentally fell asleep so it's morning now. quite a pleasant one, too, although I'm sure it'll be hot as hell later.
